The Parish of Mawgan-in-Meneage, lies south of Helston and  controls the land entrance to the rest of Meneage (the Land of the Monks) lying across the main Lizard and St Keverne roads. Its population is almost equal to the total population of the other three parishes, with whom it shares a Rector, the Rev’d Lesley Walker. In common with these parishes it consists of a collection of hamlets (Rose in the Bush, Rosevear, Garras, Mawgan Cross and Mawgan Church Town) spread between a number of scattered isolated farms. In post war years Mawgan Cross had new housing schemes and with Church Town it is now almost like an English Village, with a village shop and post office, the Old Courthouse Pub, a playing field, Recreation Hall, a football team, Mawgan Ladies Guild and other societies, a church and a school, albeit that the latter remains on Trelowarren land at Garras.. The manor house and Estate of Trelowarren, which over the years has provided much employment and has been a great benefactor to the area, still has the same resident family. It now houses a Christian Fellowship, a Craft Gallery, a resturant and Time Share facilities

For employment people of the area, if not working in agriculture, turn to the Earth Satellite Station at Goonhilly, Seacore, the under water drilling experts at Gweek, the Royal Naval Air Station at Culdrose, the local town of Helston, or further afield.    Many of the small farms still have the usual charming Cornish names, Tregadjack, Bojorrow, Chygarkye, Skyburriowe, Tregear, Tregoose, Roskymer, Gwarth-an-drea, Gilly, Chybilly to name just a few. However, in recent times some of these have been joined together to form larger farms, in theory, to make them more economically viable. The Celtic Cross, dated 600 A.D, is the oldest man made object in the Parish and gives evidence of Christianity at that time.

Village cottages and the old Celtic Cross

Our 12th Century Church is full of history and our present day congregation welcomes visitors to the building and to our services.

The Parish of Mawgan extends down to the creeks of the Helford River and has some large visitor attractions within its boundaries - Culdrose Visitor Centre, Goonhilly Earth Satellite Station and the Grange Fruit Farm in addition to Trelowarren.
