Cury, anciently called Corantyn takes its name from its patron, St Corentin and was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. The parish contains the hamlets of Churchtown, Cross Lanes, White Cross and Nantithet, and  is primarily an agricultural one, with many farms.

John Wesley came to Cury in 1762, but it was not until the early 1800s  that a Methodist Society was established.  The Wesleyan chapel, built in 1891, is at White Cross. This replaced an earlier version, built in 1845, which became the Sunday School.  In 1992 this building was sold and the 1891 building was converted to accommodate the chapel congregation and the Sunday School in a single building renovated to take advantage of good insulation, good heating and low maintenance.

In 1841 the population was 541 which declined to 325 by 1901, through emigration. In 1991 the population was 380.

St Corentin’s Church stands to proclaim the Christian faith and send us out as witnesses to God’s mission. Sung Eucharist is celebrated here every Sunday at 9.30 a.m. and visitors are warmly invited to join us.
